Significant health care challenges face Franklin County. There are currently only 12 pediatricians serving the area. A staggering 22 percent of the population is on Medicaid or uninsured. And a much higher percentage of children are hospitalized for pediatric asthma than in areas where much of the population is privately insured. The new Crider Health Center in Union will help to relieve these and other problems in the under served Franklin County.
Currently, Crider operates an outpatient behavioral health clinic in Washington, Mo. Relocating this clinic to Union will enable Crider to serve current patients better and accept new patients. In addition to pediatrics and psychiatry, Crider has plans to offer dental services in Union. The current Crider dental offices in Washington will be relocated to the new Union location within the next several months. Statistics show that low-income children have twice the prevalence of tooth decay as children from higher income households.
A Grand Opening Reception and Open House will be held on January 20, 2010, 5-7 p.m. Light refreshments will be served and tours of the facility will be offered.
