Southern Illinois University's School of Medicine will be hosting a weeklong group of workshops for nurses and other health professionals that work with rural public health issues this August. The goal of the workshops will be to provide the skills to enable health care professionals to anticipate, prevent, diagnose, and treat occupational illnesses and injuries in the farm community.
Some of the topics to be covered include: hazards of biological products, strategies to prevent the misuse of biological products and treatment; zoonotic disease in humans; commonly found respiratory disease in rural agricultural workers; use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and many others. Continuing education credits are available for nurses through the AACN.
